In total, we identified 16 trees for the national selection to participate in the international competition \u00abEuropean Tree of the Year\u00bb. Everyone can participate in the vote, but we will take into account only unique votes.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, Ukraine took part in this competition for the first time, presenting an apple tree from Sumy region, which is already over 220 years old. In total, more than 14 thousand people voted for the apple tree colony. During an enemy attack in February 2022, the tree saved the lives of three soldiers by taking the blow that split it in half. Currently, volunteer arborists are treating it and trying to save its life. During the Mongol-Tatar attack, local residents could hide in the tree, which saved their lives. People have not forgotten about this tree and to this day call it the savior elm. Bogdan&#8217;s Oak<\/strong> is located in the Cherkasy region in the village of Velyka Burimka in the western part of the park. The oak was struck by lightning twice, so some of the branches burned.
