Much of the Tereblya River valley – including the upper reaches – is located in the Synevyr National Park. It is here, in the mountains, that Tereblya originates, and also hides one of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine in the forest – the mountain karst lake Synevyr.
Every year, Synevyr Lake is visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists who stay for a while and live in the nearby villages of Negrovets, Synevyrska Polyana, Synevyr, and Kolochava. Together with tourism, the village came with the problem of total pollution of the environment, since there is only one landfill in the whole Mizhhirskiy district, which has also used its resource for a long time. Environmental regulations do not allow one more landfill to be erected in this mountainous area, so that all garbage produced by tourists and locals is discharged into the environment. During the seasonal floods of the Tereblya River water, tons of plastic are carried downstream, which then settles on the Tereblo-Ritskaya HPP dam and along the banks of the Vilshan Reservoir. Every year, the situation gets worse and more and more debris is heard.
The analysis of the morphology of municipal solid waste produced in the village by experts of the NGO Ecosphere has been made long ago and today the findings have been confirmed by the existing model of sustainable management of solid waste in the mountain villages of Abranka and Verkhnyaya Vorota in the neighboring Volovets district of the region. With good organization of separate garbage collection – plastic, glass, metal cans – 10-15% of non-recyclable garbage remains in the household. It is this garbage that can be disposed of in landfills. The rest is a commodity.
