The document PROBLEM ISSUES OF REGIONAL POLICY IN WASTE MANAGEMENT IN ZAKARPATTIA REGION: reasons, predictions and recommendation provides a brief description of the current situation with waste in Zakarpattia region, highlights the main problematic issues and their causes. The history of the formation of regional policy in the field of waste management and its compliance with the national policy, which is determined by the National Waste Management Strategy in Ukraine until 2030 and current legislation, is analyzed. The Regional Waste Management Plan in Zakarpattia region until 2030 was analyzed with an emphasis on compliance of the planned measures with the priority required by the waste management hierarchy.


The research was based on open official data of the relevant departments of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration – the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Department of Energy and Housing and Communal Services; on the data received on information requests from specialized departments, as well as on the analysis of all available strategic and operational documents of the regional level in the field of waste management. Current information from regional mass media was taken into account. The document contains forecasts of the development of the situation under existing conditions, recommendations for optimizing the situation, and conclusions.
